After 46+ years of bringing the community together at Freds Pass Reserve, one of the Territory’s most cherished rural events is ready for its next chapter.

From 2026, the Freds Pass Rural Show will become the Litchfield Rural Show, with a new home at Livingstone Recreation Reserve in the Litchfield region – just a short drive from its original location, but with room for new memories to grow.

There have had many great shows at the Freds Pass Reserve, however the thriving sports scene there has increased demand on space and facilities, leaving the show (a casual tenant with no permanent status) with a smaller and/or changed area each year, risking future event capacity and sustainability.

In initiating the move to the Livingstone Recreation Reserve, the Freds Pass Rural Show Inc Committee considered the long-term sustainability of the show, and say the change reflects its evolving needs.  The new site offers a much-needed permanent home for the show, with more space, extensive close patron parking and improved access and facilities, giving the show a stable and strong foundation for the future.

“After more than 46 years at Freds Pass Reserve, this marks an exciting new chapter for our show,” said Committee Chair Shirley Preston “We’re still the same community-driven rural show – just in a great new location, with a new name that reflects the whole of our local community.”

While the venue and name may be changing, the spirit of the show remains the same.  We want people to know it’s still their show, it’s still about community, connection, agriculture, family fun, and celebrating everything that makes rural life so special in the Top End.

The show’s core attractions, including livestock exhibits, equestrian events, agricultural competitions and pavilions, local food and business stalls, music and family entertainment, will remain the same – ensuring continuity for regular patrons, exhibitors, and sponsors.

Local support for the move has been overwhelmingly positive.

“This show has been part of my family’s life for decades” said Kezia Purick, a long-time member of the community and patron of the show.  “The new location is a great idea – we’ll have the same traditions, just with better access and space.”

Planning is already underway for the 2026 event, with further details about the new site and show schedule to be released in the coming months.

“We know how important this show is to our community, and we’re committed to preserving the traditions that people love while embracing this exciting new location on the Livingstone Recreation Reserve” Shirley Preston said.

We look forward to celebrating the exciting new chapter of our beloved rural show with you…our community!
