Update Flooding and Road Damage - 31 March 2026

Recent heavy rainfall has impacted a number of local roads and floodways across the municipality.

Council is actively monitoring conditions and working to assess and repair damage as quickly as possible.

We’re asking all drivers to respect road closures, they’re in place to keep people safe and prevent further damage.

Current road closures

  • Leonino Road at Karen Kelly Crossing, Darwin River
  • Old Bynoe Road at Darwin River
  • Reedbeds Road at Darwin River
  • Wheewall Road, Berry Springs

Ignoring closures can cause significant road damage and increase repair costs for the community.

Floodway updates

Water has receded in some areas, but caution is still needed:

  • Kentish Road, Livingstone
  • Hopewell Road, Berry Springs
  • Weaver Road, Noonamah
  • Alverly Road, Hughes

Conditions can change quickly with localised rainfall, so please remain alert.

Water still over floodways

  • Old Bynoe Road at Fly Creek
  • Reedbeds Road at Darwin River
  • Wheewall Road, Berry Springs
  • Old Bynoe Road at Darwin River

Do not attempt to cross, even shallow water can be dangerous.

Damaged roads

A number of roads have sustained damage due to the extreme weather.

Council is currently investigating the most effective and economical ways to carry out repairs as soon as possible.

Key locations include:

  • Weaver Road (Noonamah) at the floodway
  • Finn Road (Berry Springs) at Hardy’s Crossing
  • Brougham Road, Fly Creek
  • Northstar Road, Acacia Hills
  • Kentish Road (Livingstone) at the floodway
  • Trippe Road, Humpty Doo
  • Thorngate Road, Holtze
  • Townend Road and Mocatto Road, Acacia Hills

Safety reminders

  • Always drive to the conditions
  • Take extra care around damaged roads and follow all signage, including temporary traffic controls
  • Never drive through floodwater, if it’s flooded, forget it
  • Respect closures - they’re there to protect the community and reduce long-term repair costs.

We thank the community for their patience and cooperation while we work to restore safe road access across the region.

Update Flooding and Road Damage - 20 March 2026

We know flooding can be incredibly stressful for families dealing with damaged homes, roads and property. Our thoughts are with those residents who have been flood-affected and Council is doing everything we can to support recovery and respond to the significant flooding across the municipality.

Flood-affected residents can dispose of damaged household items free of charge, such as mattresses, fridges/freezers and air conditioners at our Humpty Doo and Berry Springs Waste Transfer Stations until 12 April. This is just one of the practical ways Council is helping residents recover from flooding.

Some roads and crossings have been structurally damaged due to floodwaters and Council crews are assessing damage and prioritising repairs across the road network.

Residents and the wider community are asked to respect road closures and signage for safety and to prevent further damage.

Here is a list of current road closures and impacts from recent flooding:

  • Old Bynoe Road – near Reedbeds Road intersection, Tumbling Waters
  • Reedbeds Road, Tumbling Waters
  • Leonino Road at Karen Kelly Crossing, Darwin River
  • Wheewall Road, Berry Springs
  • Elizabeth Valley Road, Noonamah
  • Brougham Road, Fly Creek.

Thank you to Council staff, emergency services and the community for your resilience and patience.
