About Litchfield Mates: Catch Up & Chill
Across the Litchfield municipality, we’re seeing a quiet but concerning rise in mental health challenges and suicide, particularly among men living on large rural blocks, Defence veterans adjusting to civilian life, and those navigating isolation, financial pressures, or major life changes on their own. In a place as spread out as ours, it’s easy for days to pass without real connection, even when people are surrounded by community.
Litchfield Council recognises how important it is to create spaces where men can feel welcome, supported, and able to simply be themselves, without expectations, pressure, or the need to “talk about big feelings” unless they want to. Not every man connects through sport or wants to spend time at the pub, so we’re building something different: relaxed, low-pressure opportunities for men to come together, share a meal, try an activity, or just enjoy good company.
With support from the NT Government’s Department of Health and in partnership with a range of local community groups, we’re launching the Litchfield Mates: Catch Up & Chill Program, a series of monthly gatherings designed to strengthen connection, improve wellbeing, and build sustainable support networks right here in Litchfield.
This program is about men looking out for one another, creating mateship that lasts, and reminding every man—young dads, tradies, retirees, veterans, and everyone in between—that they belong in this community.
If you or someone you know could use a break, a chat, or just a reason to get out of the house, come along. You’re welcome here.
