Bees Creek Road and Stuart Highway intersection

Council has welcomed confirmation from the Northern Territory Government that a contract to upgrade the Stuart Highway and Bees Creek Road intersection will be awarded in the coming months, with construction works expected to commence soon after.

Council has been advocating for improvements to the intersection since 2023 following several accidents and ongoing safety concerns raised by the community.

Mayor Rachael Wright said Council had worked closely with the Northern Territory Government to highlight the need for the upgrade and ensure the issue remained a priority.

“This intersection carries significant traffic volumes, particularly during peak periods such as school and childcare drop-offs and pick-ups, as well as during sporting and community events.”

“Safety for our residents and road users is a top priority and we are pleased to see progress towards an upgrade that will improve safety and traffic flow in the area.”

Council also acknowledges the strong community support behind the push for change and thanks everyone in the community who signed Council’s petition calling for improvements to this intersection.

Further information about the project timeline and construction works will be available from the NT Government’s Department of Logistics and Infrastructure.
