Litchfield Council proudly recognised the remarkable contributions of local residents at its annual Citizen of the Year Awards, held in conjunction with the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony held recently at Freds Pass Reserve.
The awards celebrate individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the Litchfield community. This year’s recipients reflect the spirit of service, leadership and community pride that defines the Litchfield region.
Garry Fischer was named Citizen of the Year for his unwavering commitment to the Berry Springs and wider rural community through nearly two decades of volunteer service with the Berry Springs Volunteer Bushfire Brigade.
Young Citizen of the Year was awarded to Jack Logan. At just 24, Jack is living with cerebral palsy and has made an outstanding contribution to the community through his dedicated volunteer service with St John Ambulance NT, completing hundreds of volunteer hours supporting local events and recently achieving Advanced Responder accreditation.
Virginia Bees Creek Volunteer Fire Brigade is of Community Event of the Year for their annual Santa Run and Children’s Christmas Party. This much-loved, fully volunteer-run and free event has become a cherished Litchfield tradition, bringing families together to celebrate connection and community.
The Student Citizen Awards recognise outstanding citizenship within our school communities and three exceptional students in the Litchfield area have demonstrated kindness, leadership and a positive impact within their school and wider community. Congratulations to Tully Moore – Berry Springs Primary School, Maddi Brown – Humpty Doo Primary School and Oliver Lowe – Tipperary Station School. A well-deserved recognition
Litchfield Council Mayor Rachel Wright congratulated all nominees and recipients, acknowledging the vital role volunteers and community leaders play in strengthening the region.
“The Citizen of the Year Awards recognise people who go above and beyond for our community. From quiet achievers to inspiring young leaders and dedicated event organisers, each recipient demonstrates what makes Litchfield such a vibrant and connected community.
“Congratulations to our award winners and all those who were nominated, their contributions make a real and lasting difference.”
The celebrations also included an Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony, where 38 new citizens from 14 officially became Australian citizens.
Mayor Rachel Wright welcomed the new citizens, highlighting the cultural diversity and shared values that enrich the Litchfield region.
Family members, friends and community representatives gathered to celebrate both the award recipients and new citizens, marking Australia Day as an opportunity to reflect on shared values of respect, inclusion and community spirit.
Council extends its sincere congratulations to all nominees, award recipients and Australia’s newest citizens.
