Australia Bureau of Statistics (ABS) collect data every 5 years through Census which aim is to accurately measure the number of people and dwellings across Australia. Population projects are carried out during the years between the Census and the ABS release Estimate Resident Populations (ERP) figures.

The next Census will be Australia's 17th National Census and will be held in August 2016.
