Burial and Interments

Thorak Cemetery has sections designed to accommodate a variety of the local community’s religious or non-religious memorial needs.

Thorak Regional Cemetery staff will help you select the most suitable interment site and memorial to suit your individual cemetery pre-planning needs.

Section A

Section A is a non-denominational lawn cemetery. A formal lawn area of grass covered graves with tablet style markers on a concrete base. This section permits two burials per single plot. Memorials in this section are restricted to flat or tablet style plaques, or pillow markers placed on a beam or concrete base.

Section B

Section B is a non-denominational lawn area with two separate sections; one is adjacent to Section A and the other continues across the middle road. This section permits two burials per single plot.  Memorials in this section can be a plaque or a headstone limited to a maximum size of 700mm in height. The memorial is placed on a concrete beam.

Sections C and D

Section C and D are non-denominational sections bordering on the west side of the cemetery. This section permits two burials per single plot. Memorials in this section can be headstones, tombstones or monuments limited to 1.8m high and are often constructed to cover the whole grave. In some designs, engineering certificates will be required.

Muslim Section

An open lawn area providing unbroken views of the landscape.  Memorials in this section are restricted to flat or tablet style plaques only and do not protrude over the grave.

Baha'i Section

Offering views across the cemetery to the surrounding bushland.  Memorials in this section are restricted to flat or tablet style plaques only, set on a concrete base.

Orthodox Section

This section has been set aside for the Greek Orthodox community.  Memorials in this section can be headstones, tombstones or monuments limited to 1.8m high and often cover the complete grave. In some designs, engineering certificates will be required.

Garden of Angels

The special area is set aside as the children's cemetery and is comprised of two sections.

Section A  For infants 2 years or less of age. Memorials in this section are restricted to flat granite or bronze plaques, attached to a concrete beam.

Section B  For infants up to the age of ten. Memorials in this section can be a plaque or a headstone limited to a maximum size of 700mm in height. The memorial is placed on a concrete beam.

In the middle of these two sections, families are provided an area of shade, benches and a water feature. A perfect place for quiet contemplation.

Memorial Palm Garden

The Memorial Palm Garden is set aside for the interment of cremated remains or memorials.  Set among exotic plantings and soaring palms, this area features engraved bronze plaques (limited size) in a garden setting.

There are a limited number of locations still available in this section.

Niche Walls

The two Niche Walls are located inside the Memorial Palm Garden. They provide an above ground wall for cremated remains of limited capacity. Bronze plaques are available to seal the interment space.

Courtyard of Tranquility

The Courtyard of Tranquility is an enclosed courtyard with a perimeter landscaped garden. Currently there are two interment options available. One section allows for single interments and a bronze plaque. Another section will permit up to four interments, along with a small upright headstone.

Interments

Interment (burial) within existing family graves is available; Thorak can accommodate two caskets or up to six interments of cremated remains. For those who choose two caskets in a single plot, the first casket must be dug to extra depth, so the decision to use a single plot for two caskets must be decided in advance.
