Weddell
The Litchfield Council were extremely happy and enthusiastic about the Chief Ministers
announcement giving the green light for head works to formally commence for the City of Weddell which is targeted to come on line with land sales by 2014.
At a special Council meeting held in February the announcement was one of the main items for Council discussion. Planning & Infrastructure representative Mr Rod Applegate met with Council and briefed them of plans for the new satellite City.
All Councillors' were extremely positive and noted that The Litchfield Municipality would finally have their dreams realised for long awaited and required infrastructure and a range of services within the rural boundaries of Litchfield.
The proposed new satellite city of Weddell is situated near Noonamah and Berry Springs and will benefit all residents of the Litchfield municipality and the Greater Darwin areas.
As soon as I heard the news that the Chief Minister had announced the plan for the City of Weddell to go ahead, I took a drive along Finn Road and looked over the land where the city will be situated, commented Litchfield Council President Mary Walshe. While it might appear to be virgin bush land at present all I needed was a bit of imagination to see the area as a bustling and innovative City that will serve as a hub for the residents of Weddell and the wider rural areas of Darwin said Ms Walshe.
