The Litchfield Shire currently has members on the following internal and external committees:

Functions
Apart from the traditional service provision of the 3R's (Roads, Rubbish and Recreation) and, as a result of the revised Local Government Act of July 2008, Council services now also include Regulatory Services Management and Management of the Thorak Regional Cemetery.

The Litchfield Council has prepared a Strategic Plan in which it sets out the Councils principal activities and the proposed services under these activities.

The current Strategic Plan covers the period of 2008-2012. The Strategic Plan is reviewed by Council annually to allow forward progression.
Some of the major functions of the Council include:
- being an informed, responsible decision-maker and representative in the interests of its community;
- participating in public policy development and planning activities with the other spheres of Government;
- providing and co-ordinating services and facilities that benefit its area, ratepayers, residents and visitors;
- developing its community and resources in a socially just and sustainable manner;
- providing for the welfare, well-being and interests of individuals and groups within its community;
- representing the interests of its community to the wider community and other spheres of Government;
- planning at the local and regional level for the development and future requirements of its area;
- managing, developing, protecting, and conserving the environment.
