The Litchfield Council provides services to an area of 3,100 km2 in Australia's Northern Territory.
A 'Quality of Life Index' survey conducted by BankWest, released in August 2008, revealed what Litchfield residents already know: that the Municipality is a great place to live.
The survey ranked some 500 Local Government areas across Australia. Litchfield was the highest ranking Municipality in the Northern Territory, coming in at 284, with Darwin City at 467. The survey was complied by comparing 10 different indicators, using government and other data. The indicators included levels of home ownership, detached housing, health, property related crime, high school enrolment, income and community involvement.
Residents of the Litchfield Municipality have long prided themselves on their rural lifestyle and have adhered to Councils' motto of ''Community Effort is Essential''. Indexes such as this indicate that the community's hard work does not go unnoticed, and that our rural lifestyle is proudly maintained.
