Landcare Groups
Landcare is a community based approach to the conservation of our natural resources, with its roots in the mid eighties in Victoria with the development of a number of small Farm Tree groups. It has since evolved into a nationwide partnership between the community, industry and government to promote sustainable management of land, water and living natural resources for the benefit of the whole community.
Landcare encourages land owners and the community to take responsibility for local problems as a group and join in addressing these issues on a catchment or regional basis. Landcare groups tackle a range of environmental problems to help repair, protect and conserve our natural enviornment. Natural resource management issues such as weed control, fire management, habitat restoration, marine debris, feral animal control and dune and soil erosion control are just some of the examples of typical activities many dedicated Territory community groups undertake on a regular basis.
