Community Effort is Essential
A common sight along the roadsides of Doxas Road in Humpty Doo is rural resident- Mick Lawson who picks up litter from the road sides near his rural property. He spends an hour or two several days a week cleaning up because he enjoys doing it. He also believes that if more people spent 10 minutes now and then in front of their properties the Litchfield Municipality would always be clean and tidy and something to be proud of.
Mick Lawson is not unique in that there are many residents of the Litchfield Municipality that go the extra mile to make the community a better place to live.
Litchfield Council President Mary Walshe said "there are many ways that rural residents have contributed to the community, from all the dedicated volunteer fire fighters and volunteers of the many sporting and recreational clubs to the individual that will see some dumped rubbish along the side of the road who stops to add the rubbish to their load to take to the transfer stations."
"Litter in our community is an ongoing concern and cost to ratepayers, so to see people like Mr Lawson taking responsibility for litter on his roadsides is what the Litchfield Council motto of 'Community Effort is Essential' is all about." said Ms Walshe.
"Generally rural residents are happy to make the effort to assist and to improve our community. Where some of the litter issues can occur is when rubbish loads in the backs of Ute's or Trucks are not tied down and can fly off on the way to the transfer station without being noticed" said Ms Walshe.
