The Volunteer Bushfire Brigades
Apart from their core business of defending the community from fire, the Volunteer Bushfire Brigades are kept busy with fundraising activities throughout the year, holding community events such as Santa's roadside Christmas visits to children in the Litchfield area where gifts, sweets and festive cheer are distributed.
The Brigades fund raising efforts are getting bigger and better each year due to the tireless work done by this volunteer group which is highly commendable. More help is needed throughout the year to assist with these events. To visit the Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service Volunteers website click here

Community Activities
The Litchfield Council motto of ‘Community Effort is Essential’ is very relevant in maintaining our rural life style, which was acknowledged in the recent Quality of Life Survey where Litchfield ranked No. 1 in the Local Government Councils of the NT, with Community Involvement being one of the key indicators.
There are a number of ways that residents can become involved within the community by volunteering time and effort to assist the wide range of activities and services that occur in the Litchfield area.
To view a comprehensive list of services and clubs within the Nelson electorate the Nelson Directory can be seen by following this LINK with the compliments of Gerry wood- MLA.
