Thorak Regional Cemetery is the only active cemetery serving the greater Darwin area. Built on the old Berrimah Experimental Farm, it was opened in 1988 and named after Klaus Thorak, a distinguished veterinarian who looked after the farm's dairy cows.
Situated amid natural bushland, on gently sloping terrain, Thorak Regional Cemetery has respectfully served the local Darwin region for the past 25 years. Of the total 26 hectares, available, only 10 hectares are currently in use.
The landscaped open space, green lawns, gardens and shade provides a tranquil location as the final resting place for your loved ones.
Crematorium services commenced in 1990 at that time it was the only crematorium facility in the Northern Territory. An expanded administration office was constructed in June 2010. Soon after a new cremator was purchased and the chapel was expanded in 2011.
Litchfield Council was entrusted with sole management and operations of the cemetery in 2008.
The Office of Australian War Graves (OAWG) has an attractive memorial garden called the “Garden of Remembrance” that salutes our deceased military personnel.
